Everything You Need to Know About Kata Noi Beach

Kata Noi is one of Phuket’s hidden treasures. Tucked away on the southwest of the island of Phuket, at the end of a curve in the bay, Kata Noi is minutes away from Kata Beach but a world apart. Kata Noi doesn’t have much in terms of amenities but you won’t need them – the point of visiting Kata Noi is to take in the stunning scenery and relax. Here’s all you need to know about this jewel of Phuket’s beach scene.Phuket’s beach scene.

Kata Noi is at the end of a small road – all traffic leads here, so the beach is less crowded than those at Kata and Karon. The beach itself is soft, white sand and there’s an inviting backdrop of palm trees and exotic jungle. Kata Noi is peaceful, tranquil and beautiful – all you need for a relaxing Thailand vacation.

What We Love

The best thing about Kata Noi? The chance to kick back and relax in surroundings that are so lovely, you’ll feel like you’re in a picture postcard. If you visit during the high season – in the western winter time – you can swim in the calm and shallow seas, or take a snorkel and see what you can find in the clear waters. If you’re visiting in May through October the seas are often too dangerous for swimming but the surfing is great – whether you’re a surfer or not, you can enjoy watching the waves. For the view to beat all views, drive for five minutes to the Kata Viewpoint – a beautiful spot where you can see across all three bays; Kata, Kata Noi, and Karon.

Where to Stay in Kata Noi

By far the biggest and the most popular resort on Kata Noi is the Katathani Phuket Beach Resort. This perennial Thai favorite has over 400 guest rooms, many of which overlook the ocean directly. Other views from the resort guestrooms include the tropical gardens and the swimming pools – all six of them. This resort is always popular but there is plenty of space so you don’t feel crowded. Further amenities at the resort include five bars and six restaurants, including the special La Scala restaurant, so you can eat whenever and wherever you wish. The resort is well-established and the efficient staff offer a good service. And, of course, there is that fabulous beach to enjoy. If you want to be near to the action at Kata Beach but you want less of a crowded experience, Kata Noi is the place to stay.

Where to Eat in Kata Noi

While Kata Noi itself is quiet and doesn’t have many amenities, the area surrounding Kata Noi is a haven for foodies and those looking for a romantic, candlelit meal near the ocean. Visit the Boathouse Wine & Grill or Mom Tri’s Royal Kitchen for a special dining experience (with prices that are higher than the average on Phuket). If you’re looking for genuine Thai food at a good price, the area around Kata South (which is close to Kata Noi) is the place to visit.

For a drink with a view, go to the area of small bars which is located on the back hill overlooking the bay. Here you’ll find some cute places for a cool beer watching the sunset or a cocktail before dinner.

Kata Noi Things to Do

Kata Noi is a gorgeous place to stay or visit, but you won’t find much in the way of amenities or facilities. Which is fine when you’re looking for a piece of sand to lie on and a warm ocean to paddle in. The out-of-the-way location means this place is not packed with tourists. Surfing is an attraction in the low season, but there are no outlets for other water sports. The resort has a few shops but if you’re looking to buy, take a trip to nearby Kata.
