How Is Maenam Beach?
Maenam Beach is the perfect spot for some time out, relaxation, and sunshine. It is not really the place to go if you want lively crowds, packed sands, and lots of different activities. Maenam Beach is one of the most peaceful beaches in Koh Samui, and you are likely to be able to find a large patch of sand away from anyone else. It is a quiet place with few beach sellers and not many in water sports or activities.
Maenam Beach is around 4 miles long, which means it is one of the longest beaches on the island, but you won’t be able to walk the full length as tides mean parts of the sand will be covered at certain times. But it is a lovely beach to walk along, especially if you are walking with someone special.
Maenam Beach is also a good choice for families as it is quiet with lots of space for kids to run around, and there is a fair amount of shade under the palm trees for shelter from the sun. The sand is soft, and the water is good for swimming when the weather conditions are right.
What is Maenam Village Like?
The village itself is tiny, and there is not much going on – which is what attracts many people to Maenam in the first place. The village doesn’t have much traffic, although there are some shops and restaurants, bars, and cafes – nothing like you would find in more developed areas of Koh Samui, but enough to serve basic needs. The village is not very developed and remains the same as it has been for decades, part of its charm.
Things to See and Do in Maenam
Maenam has a few temples, and there is a walking street on Thursday nights, but there is little else in the village itself. There are some décor and interiors shops for furniture and other accessories on the road out of town. And there are a variety of Thai massage places and small shops selling snacks and cold drinks.

Restaurants and Cafes in Maenam Beach
Angela’s Diner and Bakery in Maenam is a good spot for lunch, snacks, bread, and cakes. You will also find Had Bang Po a short drive away from the main village, which serves a great variety of seafood and Thai dishes. Maenam Beach has some luxury resorts along the sand, and these have their own restaurants and bars, although they tend to be pricier.
Nightlife in Maenam Beach
This is not the place to come for loud and lively bars and clubs that open into the small hours. Maenam is a calm, quiet place, and it does have some bars, but these are mainly places for a cool beer and watching the sunset rather than partying. It’s the place to be for relaxing and spending time with your friends or family, although there are some bars with live music if you want to get a little bit livelier.
Where to Stay on Maenam Beach
Find a variety of economical, low-key accommodation options in Maenam on the seashore, with bungalow rooms and plenty of space. There are also five-star and luxury choices in Maenam, including the Santiburi Beach Resort Golf & Spa, which is, as the name suggests, a great base if you love golf.
The Belmond Napasai Koh Samui Thailand, the Saree Samui, Paradise Beach Resorts, and Escape Beach Resort offer high-quality accommodation options. The Maenam Bay Resort, Moonhut Bungalows, and Palm Point Village offer fewer amenities but are nice places to stay.
If you want to get away from Maenam, you need a car – Fishermen’s Village is a short drive away with many options for eating and drinking. Or go to Nathon, the capital town on the island.
